Dr. Karim A. Youssef, Executive Chairman of Youssef + Partners, served as the keynote speaker at the Third Edition of the Civil Law Conference, held on 24 April 2025 at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). In his address, Dr. Youssef examined the delicate interplay between contractual autonomy and judicial intervention in the termination of contracts under civil law systems.
The 2025 Civil Law Conference convened over 150 distinguished legal professionals and experts from more than 20 countries, including judges, academics, and arbitration practitioners. The event fostered a high-level dialogue on one of the most critical and technically nuanced issues in contemporary contract law.
Under the theme “Termination of Contracts in Civil Law”, this year’s conference offered a comprehensive exploration of the doctrinal and practical challenges surrounding contract termination. Structured across four sessions, the program featured in-depth academic analysis alongside real-world case studies, presented by leading professors, jurists, and practitioners from across the MENA region and beyond.
Hosted at the prestigious ADGM in Abu Dhabi, the Civil Law Conference has rapidly established itself as a premier international platform for comparative legal discourse. The 2025 edition drew participants from both civil and common law traditions, underscoring the global relevance of termination-related doctrines and their cross-jurisdictional implications.
The strong participation and vibrant exchanges throughout the event reflect a growing international focus on the convergence of civil law principles and their application in diverse legal environments.
